Ward's Influence on Aretha
Ward's influence became especially important to Aretha and her siblings, after their mother died of a heart attack when they were ten. After Ward's death in 1973, a notebook was found in which she had written her opinions of other singers. For Aretha, she wrote, 'She doesn't know how good she is, doubts self, someday to the moon'
