Pauli Karp's Letter to the Churches in Asia

First John was written in order to combat a Gnostic heresy. The letter starts with what sounds like Essene teaching, if I do say so myself. In the Dead Sea Scrolls, we found references to the teachings of the Essenes. They love to talk about sons of light and sons of darkness. It's all over in the Essene theology.
