I think that falling in love is like the promise of something. And do you ever know that the promise will be delivered? I suspect the answer is no. But that's what it is, is to think something amazing is possible. It seems right that some people have a pattern of seeing something amazing as possible and then not getting abused by someone who mistreats them. We don't data on that.
