Help Me Teach The Bible
What's the Shape of a Text?
Every text has a structure. When we can see the shape of a text, then we can get at what that text is really about. We're looking at plot and rising action and climax in narrative. In an epistle, that would be a type of literature that we label as discourse. Usually he's presenting an argument. He wants them to believe something or hold on to something or change something. It's never a moral lesson. There's always an indicative about God, about Jesus with it.
