Preaching Out of Doors in the Fields
Whitfield was 23 years old when he first began to preach and by all accounts from the very beginning, his preaching was like nothing anybody had ever heard. Within a few weeks of his first sermon, word spread of this unexpectedly powerful boy preacher. And people began coming out by the thousands to hear him so that he was forced to begin preaching out of doors in the field. They preached in the fields in the outskirts of London and moved on to Bristol and other cities but nearly everywhere they went, the doors of the churches were closed to them because of their unorthodox message and style.
