The Impact of Food Miles on Global GHG Emissions

Most of the attention in sustainable food research has been on high emissions associated with animal-derived foods as opposed to plants. But a new study shows that it's actually the emissions coming from transporting the food that we should be more worried about. The assessment found that about one-fifth of greenhouse gas emissions from food sector are because of transportation. We also found interestingly that affluent countries make up a large proportion or a large contribution to this greenhouse gas footprint.
