In both cases there was a push for more globalization, but they were different in many ways. The 19th century globalization is fundamentally an exchange of foodstuffs and other commodities from a group of countries that some people then call the periphery or it's subjected to either formal imperialism or semi-colonialism. But this globalization is a result very, very different to that of the 19th century. And in the same way, I don't think that what we're going to see after the shocks that we're living through at the moment is going to be a repetition of either the first globalization of the19th century or the second globalization of ever more complex supply chains.
