The Role of Local Parties in Local Democracy
He would have been an utterly marginal backbench MP popping up every now and again, quite politely, probably on most issues. Now they've lost the Tories and the their newspapers, the potency of saying Labour will be under Nicholas Sturgeon's little finger is gone. And if he does, again, the impression will form of a disturbed party still looking inwards. But then I don't agree with one of the arguments on the other side about the rights of local parties to select their candidates without the national leadership intervening. It seems to me a completely unrealistic assessment of the role oflocal democracy.
