In the second essay, i get into this more in the second essay. I remember when i first read that in josephus, and how shocking it was to read titus's shock. That imagery was deeply moving. In some sense, the cor of the secular liberal temple is kind of empty - even if you do or don't believe in god. And so obviously, on the christian side, your personal relationship, your faith base, belief in jesus who comes and saves you. Different christian sects have different levels of this. Catholicism, i would say, has litl bet less than that, but it's still like an important part of it.
