A smart contract is really hard to take legal action against because in theory, there's no one person or corporation responsible for it. A piece of software called Tornado Cash, which is operated by several smart contracts and recently has been sanctioned by the US Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. The first time that sanctions have been applied to a non-legal entity, to a technological thing. It's a criminal activity to interact for a US person with Tornado Cash.
