The Defects of the Fort
Pillow Fort was a Confederate fort soon taken over by Union troops. On February 12, 1864, it was occupied by 600 troops, half white, half USCT. It was then surrounded by mounted troops under Forrest. He offered to let them surrender and said, you won't be massacred if you surrender. But they didn't surrender and then he did attack. And what happened then is one of the more famous massacres of black troops during the war.
