The History of the CIA
After World War II, there is kind of a fork in the road. Do we use this new status as the most powerful nation in history to affirm the revolutionary ideals upon which the country was founded? Or are we going to occupy the same kind of space that the European imperialists occupied? And I think in 1953, we took a hard turn towards the latter option. In the first quote unquote success of this new CIA is an Iran in 1953. Even sympathetic historians of the agency recognized that they didn't really understand what the third world was.
