The Trouble of Annuities
John dashwood's mother was annoyed by the payment of three annuities to old superannuated servants in her father's will. She said she would rather give them a present every now and then than be tied down to their yearly payments. Her husband replied that he had no idea what his daughter-in-law was doing with any money at all. He suggested sending gifts, but also looking out for a small house so they could move into it as soon as possible. Allanhill wrote back: 'I believe you are right, my love.
