The Sinus of the Split: A Case Study of the MAL Administration

The Jumbau incident, which leads to the sinus of the border conflict in 1969 is one of three cases that I look at in that paper. The other two being the 1962 Talents' Trace Crisis in the 2001 EP3 crisis. And what's very unique about the 69 conflict is that MAL's decision to use military force as a mechanism by which he hopes to essentially get the Soviet Union to calm down. There's relatively little evidence from the Soviet side that prior to March 1969, anything regarding military action is imminent.
