The Legend of the Coffin

Native Americans in North America generally believed the soul would leave the body with help from rituals. The Sioux tribe would wait a year to bury their dead, storing bodies dressed in their finest clothes inside of hollow trees. Mayans buried their dead under their houses. Aztecs believed sending items such as livestock and even slaves to the afterlife with the dead in tombs. Incas, due to living in frigid high altitudes, it would mummify their bodies.
