The Importance of Understanding Organizational Culture
The only starting point that I know of that works is to come to that problem with a recognition that your personal preference for how to get things done is not the only way. Once you've personally done the work to figure that out or agreed that's a world we can live in, then it's a matter of understanding where everybody else is coming from. There are definitely trends. Startups tend to be in this more ad hoc or creative space, banks and hospitals and anything where there's risk. They tend to be more controlling with more hierarchy.
