The Pros and Cons of Bonobos

There is a somewhat exaggerated view of bonobos as just super peaceful. They are certainly capable of aggression. The two ways in which they show aggression that people might not be aware of is first of all the males are as likely as male chimpanzees to attack each other within groups. And the other way in which bonobo peacefulness can sometimes be exaggerated is that although they are perfectly capable of having very delightfully cooperative and peaceful intergroup interactions, somewhere around half of interactions with neighboring communities are aggressive.
