The History of the Cavalry Broadsword
The day of the sword had been demoted to bayonet. Stick it on the gun just in case, right? They get too close. If you couldn't get them from a distance with your musket that took 45 minutes to load and shoot, you'd pull that thing out when you were in close quarters and maybe out of ammo. But by this point in time, I feel like swords have gotten a lot less meaty. And if they were functional, they were a weapon of last resort.
