The Evolution of Signaling

Samuel Morse came up with the idea of using electromagnets to send messages over long distances faster than a train. He started off by making telegraphic type, but found that it was too complicated and time-consuming for most people. So he developed an even more complex system where you could pre-prepare letters before running them through a machine. And then at the other end,you have the electromagnet, which is connected to a pen, and it makes this wiggly line that corresponds to the pattern of teeth that you've got at the sending station.
