Did the Ground Engineer Deliberately Set the Selector to Manual Mode?
The board has no reason to believe that the flight crew would deliberately set the pressurization controller to manual mode. In order to have done so, they would have had to write up in the log book that there was a problem with the automatic or altitude modes. Furthermore, there was no evidence recorded of either pilot manually controlling ther pressurization during the climb.
