The Rise of the Speakeasies
In the late 1920s, there were estimated to be 32,000 speakeasies in New York City. Unlike old saloons, they're places where women and men drink together. As traditional saloons disappear, so too do the macho connotations of drinking after work. The number of African Americans in Chicago has risen by over 1000% in recent years.
