The Importance of the GI Bill

A lot of people were excluded from this benefit, not just the war production workers who were actually on the lines. If you were dishonorably discharged for being gay or lesbian, you're also not going to be able to get your GI Bill. Disabled veterans, veterans who are hurt also had a hard time using this because it all depended on the college and university accepting you. There is absolutely nothing in this legislation to make segregated schools in the south except African American veterans. A lot of schools were operating on the quota system, which means they were pretty much openly discriminating against women, Jews, Catholics, immigrants, and black students.
