I think that's a really great question. I don't know. People keep talking about how critics of AI keep moving the goalposts. A lot of people, including myself, thought that generating human like language would have required full intelligence. But it seems that there's a lot that can be accomplished without something like what we have. So the question is, does it matter? Well, I think that remains to be seen. It does seem to matter right now because these systems have flaws that are very unhuman like and are causing problems for commercializing them or deploying them.
