The first question for me is always in whose interests and for what purpose does a system exist? And I think the way in which we have become confused about the purpose of this state is by thinking it exists to serve ordinary people. The Black Panther Party initially began its strategy as very combative, you know, kind of brawling street brawls with the police in the state. But quite quickly in the early 70s shifted to a community program based on rebuilding community infrastructure that had been decimated in Black communities.
