Native Americans now run about half of the national gambling market, or about 40 billion in casino revenue. But even with all that money, most tribes are still mired in poverty. To make a real go-in-the-gambling business, tribes need to be located near big cities like New York City and Boston. The Pequots used their legislative and financial muscle to help convince Connecticut to legalize sports betting. And then there's this: It opened its fancy sports book in a partnership with DraftKings, allowing digital bets to be made at their brick and mortar casino.
