How to Get Back to Being Trusted
If your identity is important to you, the experience of shame could be more distressful and painful than feelings of guilt. If an individual believes that their self is a person that is gray, not black and white, they're more likely to engage in reparative behaviors such as taking responsibility for committing something harmful. By receiving acceptance, understanding, compassion from other people, the person can now accept their own failures and be compassionate.
