The History of the Livonian Order

The Romans would promote Christianity in Europe, a religion that had previously faced persecutions within the Roman Empire. Surrounding cultures would also begin to embrace Christianity in order to develop secure relationships with their neighbours. Christendom was evidently separating into the Roman Catholic Church centred on the papacy in Rome and the Eastern Orthodox Church centre around Constantinople. The two churches would try to influence neighbouring cultures and nations to follow their own brand of Christianity. This competition to Christianise would affect many of the Slavic peoples of Eastern Europe also.
