Teaching Editing Software to a Graduate School

I tried to learn Premiere this year and my my wife is she's really tech savvy so I was like hey you could teach me how to do this. We spent I don't know two hours. I still couldn't even open the thing because when you open Premiere it doesn't just open it's like you need to put a file in immediately and like name it something in order to open properly.
