Life in eyemouth was different for some very specific reasons. The fisherfolk were bedevilled by an ancient relationship between themselves and the church. It had always been the norm all round scotland to pay a tenth of income to the cirk. That was justhe way it was. And the church, you know, was then wealthy and had money with which to do things. But i always came at a terrible price.
