How to Challenge Gender Stereotypes
In many countries, textbooks and learning materials often contain gender stereotypes. As classroom teachers, we can help our students challenge these unfair opinions and stereotypes. For example, you might see a female nurse because this is how they are usually displayed in illustrations. But it's up to the teacher to have the class understand that nurse can also be referring to a man or that a fireman is also called a firefighter.
