The Evolution of Thermal Physiology in Ectotherms

The evolution of thermal traits is shaped by the environments that species experience. Two major factors influence how thermal physiology evolves in lizards and other ectotherms. Tropical climates generally don't change much throughout the year, at least relative to temperate habitats. By contrast, species that live in temperate habitats with hot summers and cold winters tend to evolve traits that allow them to cope with diverse conditions.
