The Scarcity Mindset in Hip Hop

The idea that you're in competition with everybody around you at all times and there can only be one victor is a hallmark of hip hop overall, like going back to the ciphers. The scarcity mindset does come from a real place of financial scarcity that was imposed on again some of the most innovative people in our culture. But then that's a very different scenario than what we're living in now. We're living in a period of abundance aided by the democratization of the Internet helped by the fact that black women and femmes can control their own narratives before they even walk into a label meeting.
