Clovis and Sinkholes in North America
During the Clovis period, when sea levels were lower, Florida was 150 miles west of where it is now. Sinkholes would have been rare islands of fresh water in a near desert environment. At Windover, near Cape Canaveral, the indigenous people used a sinkhole for burial. 168 people were buried at Windover between 6100 BC and 5900 BC.
