I Think the Continuum of a Relationship to Disability Is Very Specific to Disability

I think one thing about this that's very specific to disability is that disability is an identity that if we're all lucky and we get to live a long life we're all going to encounter it. Now does that make my life easier? No, it doesn't. It's often quite painful for me to receive that disgust or repulsion reaction but I love people and part of loving people is trying to think more broadly about them and why they do the things that they do. We could be in a better dialogue with that part of human nature that innate selfishness that operates quite powerfully to protect us from other people and our own experiences.
