We have been indoctrinated to believe that who we are, and all of us fundamentally ordinary we're terribly imperfect. But because we've been taught that that's not okay by our parents and culture, we now have so suppressed our ordinariness average is such a bad word. So how we have bypassed our own imperfections and sought the unrealistic utopia of perfectionism, we put to our children. And it's so sad because we are killing ourselves in this insatiable search for perfection, but then we kill our children and then we do damage to their isness, then they feel that their isness is not good enough. How can we just be in our isness?
Today's guest is none other than best-selling author and psychologist, Dr. Shefali. Her new book, The Parenting Map, and this conversation are for anyone raising a kid in this scary social media-driven environment.
We dive into the walls that parents hit with their children, what to do if your child is "acting out," and what to do about the pressure you might feel to raise a "perfect" child. Dr. Shefali has such amazing insights into parenting and I hope you enjoy this conversation with her as much as I did.
