The director of this movie was one Robert Thomas Letterman who was the very same man who directed Detective Pikachu, which is a movie that we had virtually an identical experience with. He said he wanted to make a very funny movie, like he wanted it to be as funny as possible. But I think I was going to use the exact word is that Jack Black can be funny and then like can slip into a pathos character like bit Very easily. And it... Well, it's all the more effective because you don't expect it from a goofy looking and sounding man.
