Social Networks Are Very Powerful

Social networks have real value, beyond whatever is involved in the purse. Most people get their jobs more through whom they know than through what know. The best predictor of a low crime rate in a neighborhood is not how many cops there are in the beat, but how many neighbors know one er this first name. A social isolation has very powerful physical health effects. If you smoke and belong to no groups, it's a close call as to which is the more dangerous avior. And if you do smoke, by all means, you should join a couple of groups to make up for the risks. You're better off if you're born in a rich community with lots of social capital.
