How Labour Can Use Patriotism to Advance Its Own Values
Gareth Southgate's Dear England letter from June 2021 riffs on patriotism. I always think Labour does well when it uses kind of soft-sea, small-sea conservative language to talk about its own values. Now the problem is that that tends to upset your activists who want something a bit more stirring and blood curdling. But I think when you're a party that really struggles to get into power then you should really try and tell your language to the country that kind of exists really and you're trying to win in right now.
