In her book, The War of Desire and Technology at the Close of the Mechanical Age, Sandy talks about the idea of sound as prosthesis. In one experiment, back in the 80s, she explored this idea by attaching a miniature microphone to a cat's collar. She founded a department at UT Austin called the ACT Lab where she and her students explored ideas through various creative mediums.
