The Anthropocene: A Time of Global Change

The term is generally accepted by people across the sciences, including I believe in geology. But like every academic idea, this idea is also contested. For example, some people prefer to call it the Capitalocene because they think that's a better frame for understanding our influence on the planet. So there are debates about the extent of it and about the best framings for it. However, everybody increasingly agrees that our activities are increasingly dominant and increasingly influential in the planet.
