The Ecological Principles of Disturbance

Natural ecosystems require disturbance, but they don't like to be disturbed constantly and in the same way. Disturbance tends to happen in a stochastic way - it just happens when it happens,. Or other things are like with these big animals. They create all these little disturbances in woodlands that then other species have co-evolved with to take advantage of. The last one is this thing called stochastic disturbance. So basically a tree falls in a storm and that opens up light for a meadow to grow in its place.
