The Importance of Discourse in Southeast Asia
Singapore recognized PRC, People's Republic of China, only 92. While India was, of course, we did it right in the body. So I think a lot of them were deeply suspicious of communist China but Lima was China. As US-China became on the same side against the Soviet Union, rest of Asia simply took advantage of it. Now that there is suspicion between US and China, their relationship has power to a certain extent.
