The Importance of Context in Your Communication
Every situation is unique. There's no score card you can use in every circumstance to insure that you've hit the perfect amount of detail. People have a higher tolerance for detail on a slide or on a single page of a report. Your words and your visuals must paint the full picture, an address at least the first order questions you anticipate getting all on their own. You should maybe prepare more slides to visually support your step by step explanations and keep viewers attention.
