But if we invest native bornness with status, does that risk creating a tiered system where immigrants are necessarily kind of always trapped in a lower status position? She says it's possible to suggest status and to convey it in ways that don't first off hurt and undercut the rights of others but also that don't actually provide any kind of legal differences for other people or structural differences.
