Alcohol is referenced in the Quran verse 37, 47, referring to a demon or spirit that produces intoxication. This slows down the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream by a considerable amount. A meal with a notable amount of dietary fat can reduce the peak blood alcohol concentration that people experience up to 50% relative to that produced on an empty stomach.
