What Is Collable and How Does It Work?

A money bond works this way. Stay in California, or Stanford University Medical, or LA Airport, New York Subway, it's kind of rough right now. They'll bring a bond for 30 years, callable in 10 years, and they'll bring it at 4% at par at 100. If rates go up to 5, you're going to be sad because you're only making 4%. So you lose both ways. In general, I like buying new issue bonds from reputable dealers. Just be aware that it'll be very hard to get out of those bonds. Easy to buy, hard to sell.
