He saw Vatican II as a means by which the church could enter into more creative dialogue with the contemporary society. He was there for the great it's called the Discourse of the De la Luna the Discourse under the moon. In a way his death is the ringing down of the curtain on Vatican II in some ways. There won't be anybody with a living memory of it.
