Since the Industrial Revolution, there has been this relationship between money and time. Time is a sort of resource that can be sold or bought to get more for it. There's all sorts of evidence in that period of capitalists getting really upset by some people who seem to do their job quickly but then spend the rest of the day just like hanging around.
