The Future of Food in India
Millets were among the first crops that humans cultivated. During 1965-70, they formed 20% of the Indian food grain basket. But now they are down to under 10%. With a population witnessing a rise in diabetes, millets are actually a good alternative to rice and wheat with high iron content and calcium content. They are also far better for the environment, which is another point in their favor.
