Mosen: I think that what's happened in contemporary culture is that we have, in a sense, turned away from reckoning with grief. In the past, we had all sorts of cultural, religious, clan, tribal, folk modes of dealing with the passage of the stages of life. And so, for me, I think our terror of loss and our terror in the face of loss is part of what is crippling us politically and imaginatively at this moment.
